Skilled Visas

There are a variety of skilled visas available to promote the opportunity to fill skill shortages in Australia. There are two main considerations, one is determining which visa types you are eligible for and the other is choosing the best visa to suit your needs.

General Skilled Migration offers a pathway to permanent residency for individuals and families. The requirements for general skilled migration change frequently including changes to skills assessments, state nomination requirements and occupation lists.

It is never too early to start planning if your intention is to obtain a permanent visa because the steps you take early in the process can make all the difference.

Examples of Skilled Visas:

  •  Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) – Points-tested stream

  •  Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)

  •  Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 491)

  •  Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) Visa (Subclass 191)

  •  Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186)

  •  Training Visa (Subclass 407)

  •  Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (Subclass 482)

  •  Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)

  •  Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 494

As you can see from the list above there is not just one option. Each visa subclass has its
own unique requirements.

Currently there are occupation lists which determine the pathways available to a permanent visa. Some occupations provide a direct pathway to a permanent visa while others require you to obtain a temporary visa first.

We conduct detailed assessments in our consultations determining an approach for each client, utilising knowledge of current Migration legislation, policy and requirements.
